FAQ

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

The art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic emphasizes the nervous system as the lifeline to every muscle, organ and tissue in the body. Rather than focusing on symptoms, chiropractors have a different approach to wellness that uses therapeutic techniques to correct neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and promote the body’s natural healing ability.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

A referral is not required in order to be treated by a chiropractor. As a portal of entry healthcare providers, chiropractors may serve as the first, and perhaps only physician to treat certain patients.

WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept most major health insurance plans. Call our office to speak with one of our staff members regarding your particular coverage.

WHAT IS A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT?

A chiropractic adjustment is the main method of treatment used by your Doctor of Chiropractic. It is a specialized, gentle, controlled, and safe impulse applied to your spine or joint of the body. This is done to restore proper motion and position of your vertebrae and other bones. Which will in turn, help your body function at an optimal level.

DO I NEED TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR EVEN IF I FEEL FINE?

The chiropractor can recognize problem areas in your spine before they develop into chronic conditions. Chiropractic adjustments can help to maintain and support a healthy spine and body. Spinal maintenance care may help to prevent small problems from becoming major misalignments. Remember, optimal health is more than just the absence of pain.

I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. DO YOU TREAT THESE CASES?

In the event that you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, chiropractic care can improve the body's recovery rate and help the body to heal properly. We work hard to handle all administrative details, as well as providing unmatched care to the patient during this fragile time of recovery. Call our office to discuss options for treatment.

WHY DO I NEED TO KEEP GOING TO THE CHIROPRACTOR?

Think of caring for your spine and body as routinely as going to your dentist. Regularly, a dentist checks our teeth, an optometrist checks our eyes, and a medical doctor checks our heart and lungs. Some tend to take the spine — a vital component of our body — for granted. Regular chiropractic adjustments help to maintain a healthy balance in our body and keep the physical, chemical, and mental stress of our day-to-day lives under control.

HOW OLD SHOULD A PERSON BE BEFORE BEGINNING CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

Chiropractic patients range in age quite vastly. One would think that babies could not have any misalignments of the spine because they are just born. The birthing process can actually be quite traumatic for little ones. Studies have shown that colic, ear infections, digestive disorders, and many other childhood problems can be caused by birthing traumas. When these problems are left uncorrected, they can cause symptoms now, that grow into much more difficult issues to correct later in life. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. The adjustment for babies is done with a gentle technique. Similar techniques are also applied to elderly patients that might have severe bone degeneration or osteoporosis.

WHAT IS THAT “POP” SOUND?

A chiropractic adjustment to a particular segment of the spine may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints that may create a popping sound. This sound is the noise caused by the change of pressure within the joint space that results in gas buildup being released.

It is a common misconception that you must hear a “pop” for the treatment to be effective. While this popping sound is frequently heard, it has no bearing on how effective the treatment is. In fact, there are some techniques where noise from the adjustment is never heard, and the patient still receives the same results. The chiropractor is concerned with the position and motion of your vertebrae, not with the noise that may occur.
