Achilles tendonitis is characterized by pain, discomfort, swelling and a general feeling of tenderness around the tendon. Dancers are susceptible to this condition because they are constantly jumping and landing on a hard surface. This pressure gradually adds up over time, causing the Achilles tendon to swell.
Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome) are another common problem associated with dancing. This condition is characterized by painful inflammation of the muscles around the shin. Dancers, runners and sports athletes frequently experience shin splints due to the excessive use of these muscles.
